The popular All Star BirdShow is now called Birds n Buddies Show. The show is a collaboration with an international creative show specialist Pieter Grove from LAS VEGAS. The popular bird show have new props, staging, 13 costumed characters, each one representing birds found in the park.

The costumed buddies include Toukie the Toucan, Swanee the Swan, Pedro the Pelican, Randy the Rooster, Vulcan the Vulture, Rocky the Penguin, Pecky the Woodpecker, Cranky the Crow and the five Macaws namely Polly, Molly, Maxine, Macho and Messi.

Characterisation comedy and audience interaction featuring the fun “buddies” together with the park’s original cast of talented birds is sure to boost the comic element of the show.

Considered the only birdshow with the most number of birds in a live performance, the original programme began since 1982, easily boasting of slightly more than 20 million viewers worldwide since its first showing.

The new creative concept and colourful costumes were carefully designed by Pieter Grove who flew in from Las Vegas.

Originally from South Africa, Pieter left his country to conquer the world in 1979. Traveling between continents, he worked internationally as a performer with his partner Cinzia for well over a decade. In 1995, established permanent residence in the United States.

Descriptive characteristics of Pieter’s work are versatility, distinctive attention to detail, originality, and an extraordinary knowledge of traditional and non-traditional techniques and materials. Considering himself lucky to have finished many contracts with many successful return engagements, Pieter feels his greatest fortune is to be regarded by his colleagues not only as a business associate, but also as a friend. He is multi-lingual with more than two decades of international experience in the theater arts.

Producing and creating for international Broadway musicals and adaptations, among Pieter’s remarkable artistic contribution include Saturday Night Fever at the Sahara-Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, I Love the Nightlife at the Galaxy-Celebrity Cruises, Legends in Concert at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida. His contribution spans across the continent bringing him to MGM Grand, Celebrity Cruises, Four Seasons hotels and finally at the Jurong BirdPark in Singapore.

“I am working with the birds finally, something I love so much, to me I simply love what I am doing, while money spins, it is my sincere love for this unique product that has made me accept this project at the BirdPark,” explains Pieter on why he decided to come to Asia.

To create a more close-to-nature appeal, the Pools Amphitheatre is also outfitted with village like platform huts depicting Singapore’s early “kampong” days.

The buddies will also be shown as funny characters that suddenly appear when least expected and usually with the original birds they represent.

The BirdPark’s regular stars like Amigo, probably the only one Amazon in the world who sings Rasa Sayang (a local folk song) and displays linguistic agility, Sassy the Cockatoo who acts as a messenger of coupons, money notes, scrolls and even rings during weddings and proposals, Mr. And Mrs. Horn-the Toco Toucans, Vicky the Hornbill and others.

The semi-open air amphitheatre has 2,000 seating capacity regularly featuring 3 shows daily namely Birds ‘n Buddies (11am & 3 pm) and The Children’s Parrot Show (1 pm). Shows are free-of-charge with a first-come-first-serve seating arrangement.
